Hello

Ok, its offical, here is the new blog for The Greenhouse community shop in Dingwall.  For those who have found this through facebook, you would have been familiar with the Redress page http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/Redress.reclaimedclothing.modern.vintage a chance to view latest stock and new ways of wearing them. This blog is where we hope to recreate that Redress magic with added extras like non clothing items and random musings of shop life.

For those of you completely new to us, here is who we are and what we do :)

The Greenhouse Project is a not for profit business that seeks to invest all profit into social, community and environmental projects in Dingwall and the surrounding areas.

We are completely self funded and have never taken any form of grants or other funding. We are also  highly committed to recycling and being a centre for information.

The project consists of one shop: The Greenhouse, we have a bookshop, local crafts section, bric a brac, toys, Eco-friendly goods, furniture, modern and vintage clothing and textiles.  We also have our community gathering space 'UPstairs' for music, films, arts&crafts, whatever is needed! The shop relies on donations from our community. We are not just a charity shop, we are a community shop. We hope to be a place of opportunity and your ideas are always welcome.

Since moving to our new shop on the High Street in November 2010 everything has been pretty hectic. It's a big shop, it is a large area to keep stocked up and there is  a lot of walking up and down to be done! Previously Pat J Mackenzies, a gentleman's outfitters for 50 or so years the building is full of lovely old wooden fittings and antique glass cabinets, it is also complete with creaky floors and strange little doors leading to various places! We love all of this, it is what gives the shop a bit of character and fits in with our ethos of reuse, recycle and breaking from the norm.

Now i better get back to my paperwork and turn the Frank Sinatra record over on the record player.
